CERTIFICATION
Pianos must adhere to certain standards before KeyArts Houston will sell a piano or accept it for consignment.
For students and professionals alike as well as piano instructors, certain standards should be adhered to or musical
efforts can be thwarted and students will become irritated or frustrated with inferior pianos leading
to quitting lessons and/or having little satisfaction after hours of practice.

Here are the points that MUST be checked to provide good piano operation
and also to give the musician or student the best advantage:

  • TUNING MUST BE ACCURATE AND AT A=440hz....standard pitch
  • TUNING PINS MUST BE IN THE RANGE OF c.40 inch lbs of torque or above to hold tune and pitch.
  • KEY ACTION MUST BE FAST AND ACCURATE with no moisture problems.
  • TONE SHOULD BE GOOD...i.e. Not "tinny" or metallic where hammers are old and hard.
  • DO NOT BUY PIANOS FOR THE APPEARANCE...while you might be lucky...you may not be in the long run.
  • PIANOS SHOULD BE MOVED BY PIANO MOVERS...if not, you risk damage.
  • PEDALS must function accurately.
  • DAMPERS must function correctly.
  • PIANOS should be cleaned inside and out...dust removal is a good idea because it holds moisture and
can contribute to allergies.  Cigarette smoke odors can be removed.
  • THE MUSIC DESK OR RACK must function and hold music.
  • ALL KEYS MUST FUNCTION AND PRODUCE SOUND
